About us

Education built for people
who already care for babies.

Newborn Care Solutions trains Newborn Care Specialists, nannies and doulas to work with newborns and their families at a professional level. We also teach the agencies that place them and the parents they support.

Our story

Tonya Sakowicz knew at age 11 that she wanted a career in newborn care. She went on to work for more than 30 years as a nanny, Newborn Care Specialist and household manager.

With her husband, Todd, she then founded Newborn Care Solutions: a company dedicated to the specialized training of high-level Newborn Care Specialists, and the home of the Master NCS training program.

The business grew from there. Today it also offers education for agencies that place Newborn Care Specialists, and targeted education for parents of newborns.

Our mission

Our work starts with the family. We educate families with newborns by training the Newborn Care Specialists who support them, and we help families adjust to life with their new baby.

That means building up the worldwide community of infant caregivers, and elevating the people who work in this field.

Who we serve

  • Newborn Care Specialists, nannies and doulas. You already work with infants, and you want deeper knowledge and a stronger professional practice. Explore training for caregivers.
  • Agencies. You place Newborn Care Specialists and want your team to understand the role. See education for agencies.
  • Parents. You want to learn about your newborn, or you want help at home. Family hiring support is handled by the separate Newborn Care Solutions Agency. Start on the For parents page.

Newborn Care Solutions is a training company, not a placement service.

What makes the training different

It is built for professionals, not beginners

Our core program was designed with the professional postpartum and childcare provider in mind. Foundational asks that you are 18 or older and already have professional experience working with infants. If you call yourself a specialist, your training should give you a specialist’s depth.

It focuses on the newborn stage

Our training is for Newborn Care Specialists, so the focus is babies from birth to 4 months. A few specialty courses, such as Sleep Solutions and Respectful Care, go beyond that age range.

It connects care with professional practice

The curricula bring newborn care together with the professional side of the role: communication, contracts and working with agencies.

It fits the doula philosophy

Tonya is a trained postpartum doula herself, so she understands the doula role. Many doulas take our training and tell us it aligns with the philosophies they hold.

Approvals are named, course by course

Foundational NCS qualifies for 16 continuing education units toward ongoing CAPPA certification. Course completion and professional certification are separate steps, and each program page lists its own requirements. Memberships such as PSA and Fair and Legal Pay are affiliations, not certifications.

You can learn in English or Spanish

Foundational and Elevate each have a Spanish edition.
